Episode Shownotes

Katey (00:00):

I want you to know you can do anything in the world. You can do anything you put your mind to. And I believe with a lot of positivity, kindness, self-love, loving others. That truly does change the world, but it starts with you!

Intro (00:16):

Welcome to the different ability podcast. I’m your host, Katey Fortun. The girl that says it’s not my disability. It’s my different ability. We’re going to dig deep every week, discussing the challenges, the struggles, the successes, and wins with being different. We will bring you inspiring and motivating stories and messages of people with different abilities that are living their best lives, the way they were created. Are you ready? I know I am. Let’s do this.

Katey (00:53):

Welcome back to the different ability podcast and I am Katey Fortun. Thank you so much for being here today. I say that every time, but I really truly do mean it. So thank you. Allright, this week’s episode, I’ll be honest, I’m still in that hotel room from a week ago. And I mean, I’m not literally still in the hotel room. Like I recorded a few podcast episodes while I was in the hotel room. So like, no, I’m not still physically there, but I technically am cause I’m here while I’m recording it. Okay. Okay. You get it. Okay. So this weekend has been a huge game changer for me in a good way. And I just wanted to hop on and I want to send a message to every little kid out there. And if you’re an adult, this is for your little kid self when you were a child. This message is for everyone. But again, that little child, I want you to know you can do anything in the world. You can do anything you put your mind to. And I believe with a lot of positivity, kindness, self-love loving others, that truly does change the world, but it starts with you! If you are listening to this right now, I guarantee you had a goal or a dream in your life. Even if you’re little, if you’re little right now, I’m so glad you’re listening. First of all, thank you for listening, my little friend. But I want you to know you can do anything you put your mind to, allright? If you want to be an astronaut, like I did for a little bit as a child, my parents told me, well, looks like Katey, we’re going to go see you in outer space.

Katey (02:43):

Now side note, I’m scared of Heights. And I don’t like tight spaces. It just was always like a little dream of mine. And don’t worry. I’m not sad. I’m not an astronaut or anything, but I will say if NASA or space X or anyone asks me if I would like to go into outer space, I would be the first to say yes, so just throwing that out there. But you can dream and be anything you want. There is a quote said, don’t worry, I’m not getting political. “My mother would look at me and she’d say, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you are not the last” and that my friend, that quote comes from our new first female black vice-president. Please think about that for a second. Put politics aside. “My mother would look at me and say, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you’re not the last”, that’s powerful!

Katey (03:44):

That is so powerful. And it reminds me of how I grew up. Both of my parents literally told me I could do anything in the world. Anything I put my mind to, but it’s not going to come easy. And they also taught me to be a kind and generous person, to not judge others, to give the shirt off your back if someone needs it. To put your head up, look around you and see what’s going on in the world. That’s how I grew up. And that is what I try to spread every single day. Whatever you believe in, this is not a political podcast, nor will it ever be. But whatever you believe in, whatever you think you could do, go for it!

Please go for it! I believe in you. And any of your crazy dreams I believe in, it’s also been said, and I can’t remember who said it so I apologize, that if your dreams don’t scare you, or if your dreams people aren’t making fun of you for, your dreams, aren’t big enough. Isn’t that crazy? Think about it. If what you want to do in your life, if what you strive to do, isn’t scaring you, and if it isn’t having everyone else around you being like, really, you want to do what? And kind of slightly not believe in you, your dreams aren’t big enough my friend. Push yourself, push yourself. Now I’m not saying, go surround yourself with a bunch of negative people, please don’t do that. But push yourself. It’ll be able to give you a moment to check yourself. And again, little’s, my little friends that are listening. You can do and be anything you want to be. I’m not going to talk to you about your background or where you came from.

Katey (05:38):

I’m going to tell you right now, you can do it. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, and never giving up! Never give up on yourself and never give up on the things you truly believe in. I truly believe this world can be a more kind and peaceful and loving world. And I am going to live every single day to the day I’m not here anymore, spreading that, talking about that, inspiring people to do the same. I am one of those 1% of people in the entire world that truly believes, and that’s not a real statistic by the way, but that truly believes that we can achieve a peaceful and kind world, but it starts with you! I said it in a couple podcasts ago, the kindness over hate podcast, that’s the name of it. It starts with you! It starts with you believing in yourself and it starts with you spreading kindness. And that old saying is “treat others the way you’d want to be treated” or here’s another one, and for the ones in the back not listening and rolling your eyes at me, here’s one. Let’s listen up in this one. Ready? “If you have nothing nice to say, just don’t say it at all.” What a concept that is?! Keep it to yourself. In this world we’re living in, people are throwing hate so much more than throwing positivity. Let’s spread positivity, now!

Ad (07:19):

Katey (09:07):

Positivity matters. No one else can make you happy or positive or kind only you can! And surrounding yourself with uplifting, positive people and kind people and people that give back that servant leadership, you are here to serve others, and that will serve yourself. I believe in that. So again, my little friend, if you are listening to me and for the adults that are listening to me, think back to your little childhood self. And if you could hear these words right here, ready? YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO! I believe in you and you should believe in you too. Remember it starts with hard work, determination, and never giving up. Don’t give up on your dreams. Don’t give up on the things you want to achieve. Life is not easy. It was designed to not be easy, but it can be peaceful and kind.

Katey (10:10):

You can create an amazing life for yourself. And I’m still talking to these little kids, okay? I’m still talking to you. You can create a wonderful life. It is up to you, keeping positive, keep pushing yourself in any situation you’re in. I do not know the situation you’re living in and I may never know the situation you specifically are living in. I hope someday we can meet, but until then, keep dreaming. Keep pushing yourself! For those of us that are living in the United States, we are so lucky to be able to dream big and go for our dreams. Just please do it! We only have so much time on this world. How are you going to live that time? What legacy do you want to leave? How do you want to leave other people feeling? When someone knows your name or is introduced to you, how do you want to be remembered? Do you want to be remembered as that awesome kid, that’s kind to everyone and says hi to any kid on the playground and includes them? And that goes for the adults. Do you want to be the person that people think, wow, they are so nice and they made me feel so wonderful. If someone’s having a bad day, they say, go talk to Katey over there, she will totally be able to make your day better. And anytime someone walks past you and you say hi to someone, they think, wow, she’s a really great person. She really made me feel good! Man I was having a bad day, but that wonderful person said hi to me and it changed my life. It changed my day. Because you can be that person. We don’t have to live in a world of hate. We don’t have to live in a life of hate.

Katey (12:05):

It’s up to you. I am very, (laughs) Oh my gosh I’m just so overwhelmed with gratitude and joy and to just keep spreading kindness and positivity. That’s what this world is about. We are not here to just live here and leave. We’re here to live and create a wonderful legacy. We are here to serve and be kind to others and make the world a better place than when we came into it. We’re here not to use the earth and use the world and just leave it trashed. We’re here to make a difference and do something kind and positive for ourselves, the people around us and the world we live in. And yes, I mean, planet earth! I can talk about sustainability all day long. If you’d like me to sometime let me know. But that’s my challenge for you. My friend, anyone listening, the little kids, listening to the adults, you can do anything you put your mind to. And I’m going to say it again for the third time on this podcast with a lot of hard work, determination, and never giving up!

Katey (13:19):

I believe in you, my friend. And remember it’s not your disability, it’s your Different AbilityTM. We all have different abilities in this world. How are you going to use your Different AbilityTM to change the world for the better? That’s my challenge for you! No, no, you don’t have to figure out your whole life right now, but just start with the act of kindness and positivity. I believe in you! Let’s do this together my friend! Have a wonderful day. See you next time.
