Dairy Free Apple Crisp

Let’s all be real, who doesn’t love hot apple crisp on a cold winter day?! Well I sure do, so I decided to dairy free an apple crisp recipe. Now I have to say, this recipe is amazing… so amazing my dad requests it ALL THE TIME!

So let’s dig into this!

Ingredients

For the crumb topping

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • 1/3 cup butter substitute (earth balance buttery spread) cut into small pieces

For the apple filling

  • 4-5 medium – large Honey Crisp Apples (sometimes I use more)
  • 3 Tablespoons butter substitute (earth balance buttery spread) melted
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 Tablespoons almond milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

For the topping

  1. In a medium size bowl mix the crumb topping ingredients together with a fork or a pastry blender. Mix together until it’s like small crumbs. Place in refrigerator while working on the next steps.

For the apple filling

  1. Peel and slice the apples and place into 8×8 baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together melted butter substitute and flower until blended. Add lemon juice, almond milk and vanilla – stir well. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Pour apple filling mixture over apples and toss to coat. Spread apples into an even layer filling the 8×8 baking dish.
  4. Take crumb topping from the refrigerator, mix well and then sprinkle on top of apples.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
